El NIE es tu número de identificación de extranjero en España. Lo necesitas para casi todo: abrir cuenta bancaria, firmar contrato de alquiler, pagar impuestos, darte de alta en la Seguridad Social.
Hay dos tipos. El NIE blanco es solo un número, sin tarjeta física. Sirve para operaciones puntuales. El NIE verde viene con tarjeta y significa que resides legalmente en España.
Puedes solicitarlo en el consulado español de tu país o directamente en España. El proceso tarda entre 2 y 6 semanas según dónde lo pidas.
El NIE se asigna una vez y es para siempre. No caduca, aunque la tarjeta física sí puede necesitar renovación.
