Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about moving to Spain.
Visas & Immigration
Which visa is right for me?
It depends on your situation. Remote workers typically use the Digital Nomad Visa. Retirees often choose the Non-Lucrative Visa. Entrepreneurs may qualify for the Startup Visa. We assess your specific case and recommend the best path during our initial consultation.
How long does the visa process take?
Most visas take 2-4 months from start to approval. The Digital Nomad Visa is typically faster at around 20 working days for the decision. We give you a realistic timeline based on your visa type and consulate.
Can I apply from inside Spain?
For some visas, yes. The Digital Nomad Visa can be applied for from within Spain if you entered legally. Most other visas require applying at a Spanish consulate in your home country first.
What is the NIE and do I need one?
The NIE is your tax identification number in Spain. You need it for almost everything: bank accounts, contracts, employment, taxes. We handle the NIE application as part of your relocation process.
Taxes
When do I become a Spanish tax resident?
If you spend more than 183 days per year in Spain, or if Spain is your main base of economic activity, or if your spouse and children live here. Meeting any of these makes you tax resident.
What is the Beckham Law?
A special tax regime that lets qualifying newcomers pay a flat 24% on Spanish income instead of progressive rates up to 47%. It lasts 6 years and requires applying within 6 months of your Social Security registration.
Will I be taxed on my worldwide income?
As a Spanish tax resident, yes. Unless you qualify for the Beckham Law, which exempts most foreign income. This is why tax planning before your move matters so much.
