Cl@ve Digital Certificate Guide

Cl@ve and Digital Certificates in Spain

Cl@ve is Spain’s digital identification system. With it, you can access government websites, check your immigration file status, and do many procedures online instead of in person.

What You Can Do With It

  • Check your immigration file status at Extranjería
  • Access your tax records at Agencia Tributaria
  • View Social Security information
  • Sign documents electronically
  • Complete some procedures without office visits
  • Get empadronamiento online (in some cities)

Types of Cl@ve

Cl@ve PIN

Temporary codes sent to your phone. Good for occasional use. Easier to set up.

Cl@ve Permanente

A fixed password you create. More convenient for regular use. Required for some procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Cl@ve to book immigration appointments?

No. The appointment booking system (ICP+) doesn’t require Cl@ve. But Cl@ve lets you check your file status and do other things online.

Cl@ve or digital certificate. Which one?

For most personal procedures, Cl@ve Permanente is enough. If you’re self-employed, running a business, or need to sign legal documents electronically, get the FNMT digital certificate.
